The opening of usual suspects is very plan and simple. There is a shot of water with a flicker of light every couple of shots. This gives the mystery and suspense a thriller film needs by the audence not knowing what is happening. The water is continous and the light flicker are all blue with an od colour every now and again showing that things may change quicker then you think. The dark lighting is part of the mise-en-scene which helps to create the thriller feel in the film.
